Community Cohesion
INFORMATION FOR CURRENT AND POTENTIAL TENANTS

Tenant Participation

Tenant Participation assist tenants to develop a tenant network so they can participate in activities that improve BHC and your Housing Manager’s services and quality of life for our tenants.

Local tenant groups are made up of interested people in your building. Being involved in a Tenant Group provides many opportunities for tenants to participate within their local community and assist with improvements of BHC Housing. For example, tenants can:

  • Improve service delivery from your Housing Manager and BHC by suggesting better ways for them to liaise with tenants;
  • Provide social interaction between your neighbours and with your local community;
  • Learn new skills such as producing a newsletter, public speaking or financial management of grants;
  • Approach local councils or community groups to improve the local area.

A BHC tenant can join or start a Tenant Group by contacting BHC or your Housing Manager. A BHC staff member will inform you of the status of Tenant Participation in your building.

Community Development

BHC also undertakes community development activities in areas where we build properties. Currently in place, BHC has a Community Liaison Officer in Kelvin Grove, working with our tenants in the area. The Community Liaison Officer is principally responsible for making effective connections between BHC tenants, local business, local residents and service providers. In addition the role will facilitate tenant participation and community development for our tenants in Kelvin Grove.
