Mission
The Mission of the Brisbane Housing Company Ltd (BHC) is to work in partnership with local communities, service providers, charities and all levels of Government to provide appropriate, secure and affordable rental housing in the city of Brisbane to people in need.
About The Company
BHC is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which provides affordable housing in Brisbane. BHC has a portfolio of housing for people on low incomes in Brisbane. BHC was incorporated on 5 July 2002. A mix of boarding houses, studio units and 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom apartments and townhouses meet the needs of a variety of tenants. The housing is offered at below-market rents to households on low incomes. BHC's properties are primarily in the inner and middle suburbs, but BHC's Constitution will allow it to operate anywhere in the city.
BHC is structured to be tax efficient and ensure residents' access to Commonwealth Rent Assistance, and to minimise GST. The Company uses income from rents to manage and maintain its properties, and any surplus to fund further expansion.
Brisbane Housing Company is overseen by an experienced Board of Directors who work through a number of functional committees. The day to day management of the Company is carried out by an experienced team of staff.

Our History
At the turn of the 21st century, the lack of affordable rental housing had begun to emerge in southern capitals. Queensland leaders in social housing including The Honourable Robert Schwarten MP, Minister for Public Works and Housing and the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, were instrumental in identifying the potential future problems associated with the lack of affordable housing in Brisbane.
The Queensland Department of Housing and the Brisbane City Council joined forces to establish the Brisbane Housing Company in 2002 as an innovative approach to the delivery of affordable housing in inner and middle city locations. The Company continues to benefit from the leadership and commitment to affordable housing shown by these ordinary shareholders.
The Company developed its first schemes in Bowen Hills, West End and Spring Hill, and now provides affordable housing in more than a dozen suburbs across the city. Brisbane Housing Company continues to seek ways to deliver more affordable housing in Brisbane and is fortunate to partner a range of organisations in the community, development, and government sectors.
Brisbane Housing Company is pleased to acknowledge the role of our initial ordinary shareholders the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council.
